Thank you for your tutorial, it was most helpful. We decided to use an orange cotton for the stitching to be more like denim. We simply LOVE our whale and hope the new baby will too.

I’m so glad you found it helpful. I made mine a few months before our baby was born and had no idea it would become her very favorite stuffed animal. Thanks for the cute picture! I love how you did the eyes, I’m going to try that on my next whale!

Just finished my first whale… First one is always a learning experience. I had a hard time turning the fins after sewing right sides together, so I left some space along one long side and turned there, handsewing it after turning instead of turning at the part that fits in the seam. I think it was difficult because the denim was pretty thick. If I used lighter weight jeans, it would probably work better. I also decided to make the pleats on his tummy show for a little texture. One whale takes a pair of jeans, but there’s plenty of scrap left for other projects!
Lacey says
Those fins are tricky to turn! I found that using a chopstick to help reverse the fabric by poking it through made the process a little easier. After making quite a few more since posting this tutorial I’ve found that womens jeans are much, much easier to use since the weight of denim is generally pretty thin. I’m glad you enjoyed the tutorial.

I am having some trouble-maybe because I’m new to sewing and entirely self-taught. Where does Top Part Two go? I assume it attaches to Top Part One, but I can’t figure out how/where. Maybe if I had more visual on what Top Part Two turns into that would help? Thank you in advance for any help.
Jennifer says
Wait! Think I got it all figured out.
Thank you, though!

I’ve always wanted a whale like that, but I’ve never found that. This is the perfect solution because I love doing this kind of things. Actually, my whale is in process, the only thing I’ve changed is that I’m using old socks, it gives to my whale a special texture 🙂 Thanks for the tutorial!!! 😀
Lacey says
You’re so welcome! I’d love to see this guy done with socks. Link a picture when you’re finished!
